Target and Hazard: The feline blood group system is based mainly on the AB system, comprising types A and B and, less commonly, AB. Incompatibility carries serious risks: a type A cat transfused with type B blood can suffer an acute haemolytic transfusion reaction, while a type B queen carrying type A or AB fetuses may cause neonatal isoerythrolysis (NI) in kittens through colostral alloantibodies, leading to anaemia, haemoglobinuria and even death. Mismatched breeding also causes weak litters and neonatal loss. This product carries no viral hazard; its focus is avoiding the clinical risks of blood-group incompatibility in transfusion and breeding.
Significance of Testing: The kit provides blood typing before cross-matching to establish whether donor and recipient cats are compatible and to prevent transfusion reactions. It supports the breeding management of type B queens by assessing the risk of neonatal isoerythrolysis, and is used for blood-typing surveys in breeding colonies to guide compatible matings and reduce breeding losses caused by incompatibility.
Principle: Colloidal gold immunochromatographic assay: monoclonal anti-A and anti-B antibodies are immobilised on separate test lines; blood-group antigens on the surface of red cells in the whole-blood sample react with the corresponding gold-labelled antibodies and develop colour on the respective line, allowing classification as type A, B or AB.
Performance and Applications: No equipment required; whole-blood sample; visual reading within 2 minutes; room-temperature storage. Suitable for pre-transfusion blood typing and breeding blood-type screening in veterinary clinics, catteries and primary practices. Method: colloidal gold immunochromatographic assay | Samples: feline whole blood (EDTA-anticoagulated) | Time to result: 2 min | Reading: visual assessment of the A/B test lines and the control line to classify type A, B or AB | Format: tests/box (as stated on the label) | Storage: 2–30 °C, cool and dry; shelf life 24 months | Note: blood-typing agreement, limit of detection and intra-/inter-assay CV are subject to our internal QC report.
