Description

Target and Hazard: Feline panleukopenia (FPV), feline calicivirus (FCV) and feline herpesvirus (FHV-1) are the three core viral diseases of cats. FPV causes high fever, vomiting, diarrhoea and leucopenia with high mortality in kittens; FCV causes oral ulcers, salivation, lameness and chronic gingivostomatitis; FHV-1 causes conjunctivitis, keratitis and upper respiratory signs and often becomes latent, reactivating after stress or immunosuppression. All three are acute and highly contagious and are a major health threat, especially in multi-cat environments.

Significance of Testing: The card measures antibody levels against these three viruses to assess protective immune status after vaccination and to determine whether a booster is needed, supporting the design of sound vaccination schedules. Note that antibody testing reflects protective immunity and is not intended to diagnose acute infection; suspected acute cases should be confirmed by antigen or nucleic acid testing.

Principle: Colloidal gold immunochromatographic assay: three independent test lines are provided on a single card; antibodies against FPV, FCV and FHV-1 in the sample bind their respective gold-labelled antigens, migrate along the membrane and are captured at each line, giving separate results for the three antibodies.

Performance and Applications: No equipment required; serum, plasma or whole blood; visual reading within 10–15 minutes; room-temperature storage. Suitable for post-vaccination antibody monitoring and booster decisions in veterinary clinics, catteries and breeding facilities. Method: colloidal gold immunochromatographic assay | Samples: serum or plasma | Targets: FPV/FCV/FHV-1 antibodies (three lines read separately on one card) | Time to result: 10–15 min | Reading: visual assessment of each test line and the control line, interpreted separately for the three antibodies | Format: tests/box (as stated on the label) | Storage: 2–30 °C, cool and dry; shelf life 24 months | Note: agreement for each antibody, limit of detection, intra-/inter-assay CV and agreement with reference methods such as the haemagglutination inhibition (HI) test are subject to our internal QC report.
