Target and Hazard: Lyme disease (Lyme borreliosis) is caused by Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato and is transmitted mainly by the bite of hard ticks; it is an important zoonotic tick-borne disease. Dogs are common reservoir hosts: infection typically presents with fever, joint swelling, lameness, enlarged lymph nodes and reduced appetite, and some cases develop glomerulonephritis and neurological signs. Infected dogs can carry the organism long-term and become a source of tick infection. As tick vectors expand their range, canine Lyme disease is of growing importance for control in endemic areas and for pet health management.
Significance of Testing: The card detects B. burgdorferi-specific antibodies in canine serum/plasma for screening of tick-exposed dogs and epidemiological investigation, helping to identify infected or exposed dogs in endemic areas and providing a basis for further confirmation, treatment planning and reinforcement of preventive measures such as monthly tick control. A positive antibody result indicates exposure or infection and should be interpreted together with clinical signs and laboratory methods.
Principle: Colloidal gold immunochromatographic indirect assay: recombinant B. burgdorferi-specific antigen is coated on the test line (T); specific antibodies in the sample are captured by the antigen and then bound by gold-labelled anti-dog IgG, producing a visible line. The control line (C) confirms test and procedure validity.
Performance and Applications: No equipment required; samples: serum or plasma; visual reading within 5–10 minutes; store and ship at 2–30 °C in a cool, dry place, with an 18-month shelf life. Suitable for rapid on-site testing at veterinary hospitals, screening of dogs in endemic areas and primary clinics. Method: colloidal gold immunochromatographic assay (indirect) | Samples: serum or plasma (dog) | Time to result: 5–10 min | Reading: visual assessment of T/C lines — a coloured T line indicates a positive antibody result, C line is the procedural control | Format: tests/box (as stated on the label) | Storage: 2–30 °C, cool and dry; shelf life 18 months | Note: sensitivity, specificity, limit of detection, intra-/inter-assay CV and agreement with reference methods such as ELISA/immunoblot are subject to our internal QC report.
