Target and Hazard: Rabies is caused by rabies virus (RABV, genus Lyssavirus, family Rhabdoviridae), an almost universally fatal zoonosis listed as a Class II animal disease in China. Dogs are the principal source of human and animal rabies, and the virus is transmitted via saliva through bites, scratches or broken mucosa. Affected animals show excitation, abnormal behaviour, dysphagia, salivation and progressive paralysis, and almost all die once clinical signs appear, posing a serious threat to public health and dog management.
Significance of Testing: The card measures rabies virus antibody levels in serum to evaluate the post-vaccination immune response and determine immune qualification in dogs. It supports vaccination monitoring, holding and quarantine observation and auxiliary exposure-risk assessment, indicating whether a protective response has been established and whether a booster is advisable; it is not intended for clinical diagnosis of rabies.
Principle: Indirect colloidal gold lateral flow: the test line (T) is coated with rabies virus-specific antigen; sample antibodies bind and are then recognised by a gold-labelled anti-dog IgG conjugate, producing colour whose intensity rises with antibody level. The control line (C) confirms reagent and procedure validity.
Performance and Applications: No equipment required; serum, plasma or whole blood; visual reading in 15–20 minutes; optional reader card for semi-quantitative reference; store at 2–30 °C in a cool, dry place, shelf life 24 months. For post-vaccination antibody monitoring in veterinary clinics, kennels, holding and quarantine facilities and primary veterinary stations. Method: colloidal gold lateral flow immunoassay (indirect) | Samples: serum, plasma, whole blood | Time to result: 15–20 min | Reading: visual assessment of T/C lines — a coloured T line indicates a qualifying antibody level, C line is the procedural control | Format: tests/box (as stated on the label) | Storage: 2–30 °C, cool and dry; shelf life 24 months | Note: sensitivity, specificity, limit of detection, intra-/inter-assay CV and agreement with reference methods are subject to our internal QC report.
