Target and Hazard: Pregnancy-associated glycoprotein (PAG) is secreted by the binucleate cells of the bovine placental trophoblast and enters the maternal circulation after conception, making it a pregnancy-specific marker in cattle. The greatest hidden economic loss on a cattle farm comes from open (non-pregnant) cows: a single missed diagnosis extends the open period by more than 21 days, lengthens the calving interval, lowers milk yield per parity and raises insemination costs, directly reducing annual farm profitability.
Significance of Testing: The kit detects PAG in blood to determine pregnancy status, with detection from approximately day 28–30 after insemination — substantially earlier than conventional rectal palpation — so that open cows are identified early and promptly re-bred. It is intended for early pregnancy diagnosis, early screening of open cows, scheduling of oestrus (re)synchronisation protocols and confirmation of conception after embryo transfer, keeping open-day losses to a minimum.
Principle: Colloidal gold immunochromatographic assay: PAG-specific antibodies are coated on the test line (T) and control line (C). PAG in the sample binds to gold-labelled antibody, migrates along the membrane and is captured at the T line, producing a visible coloured line for qualitative and semi-quantitative pregnancy assessment.
Performance and Applications: No equipment required; serum or plasma; result within 10–15 minutes by visual reading, with an optional reader card for semi-quantitative reference; room-temperature storage and shipment — suitable for on-farm use, insemination technicians and primary veterinary stations. Method: colloidal gold lateral flow immunoassay | Samples: serum or plasma | Sampling time: approximately day 28–30 after insemination | Time to result: 10–15 min | Reading: visual assessment of T/C lines, optional reader card for semi-quantitative reference | Format: tests/box (as stated on the label) | Storage: 2–30 °C, cool and dry; shelf life 24 months | Note: agreement with ultrasonography/rectal palpation, detection window and limit of detection are subject to our internal QC report.
